Kitchen Mouse is one of our favorite breakfast spots in the neighborhood, and their all (vegan-leaning) vegetarian menu is definitely a bonus. The first place I ever ate when I moved to L.A., and it didn’t disappoint.

They also have a fridge full of Asian soft drinks that remind me of going to the Korean grocery with my mom, so if you feel like trying something new, they’ve got you covered.⋆ Our favorite : Hot and Sour Soup with Dan Dan Noodles It’s modern Taiwanese food that is so damn good, and doubles as the best boba spot in the neighborhood. ⋆ Our favorite : Trinity Tacos with a Lil Queso and a Spicy Palomaĭefinitely a crowd favorite over in Highland Park, considering there’s a long line every time we go. They also have something called Frito Pie in a Bag that we haven’t tried yet, but it' looks good (for your taste buds and Instagram). These custom tacos are crafted by the celebs who have come by the restaurant (like Fred Armisen, Local Natives, and Sylvan Esso), and if you order one of these, they’ll give the proceeds to a local music program. They also have a wall of custom “records” that double as a featured menu of sorts. We' have yet to stop for lunch, but we’ll use any excuse to swing by here for their breakfast tacos. Plus, they’re constantly changing their menu so you’ll always find something new every time you go.Ī tex-mex restaurant of mostly tacos. Their plates are made to share (even though you won’t want to), and the more people you bring, the more you’ll get to try. If you feel like treating yourself to a nice dinner, this is the place to go - but make sure to bring a few friends with you. Our all time favorite spot for a fancy date night. ⋆ Our favorite : Spicy Grilled Chicken Sandwich One of my personal favorite spots for lunch dates. Just your classic cafe with a ton of great salads and sandwiches. ⋆ Our favorite : Youth Brulee and Strawberry Lab And if you’re not already sold, everything’s vegan (like, can’t even tell it’s vegan, vegan). If for whatever reason you hate everything you see, you also have the option of customizing your own. They have so many unique flavored donuts, each cleverly named after music artists (my favorite names are the Green Teagan and Sara or S’Morrissey). This is the best donut shop in L.A., maybe in the whole world (am I being overdramatic? Usually, but not about this). ⋆ Our favorite : Poppy Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheeseįor the love of all that’s good, don’t come to Highland Park without stopping here. They basically just stay open until they run out - which, depending on the day, can be just a few hours.

(according to us, and a quote I saw on a Try Guys video one time). This is easily the best bagel spot in L.A. You’ll best find this place by looking for the Hi Hat sign, otherwise you might miss it. I’m excited to share this mini guide to Highland Park and tell you about all the spots I’ve come to love so much. Even having explored a lot of the city, this neighborhood still holds some of my favorite spots to eat, shop, or just hang around. When I moved out here, I made a goal for myself to see as much of Los Angeles as possible, but I was spoiled here in Highland Park and rarely spent any time outside of it.
I say this like I’ve lived here forever (it’s only been two years), but this is the only part of the city that’s felt like home or like a community. Unlike the other popular areas in L.A., Highland Park has managed to keep its quiet, historic charm in the midst of becoming one of the more trendier neighborhoods. In a weird way, this neighborhood always feels like an escape from the city.

Maybe I’m a little biased, considering this was the first place I lived when I moved here but even having moved away, I always seem to come back here when I have a free day. Highland Park probably stands as my favorite neighborhood in Los Angeles.
